In 2005, Hangman's Chair emerged from the depths of Crosne, France, with a lineup consisting of Julien Rour Chanut, Mehdi Birouk Thépegnier, Sid-Ahmed Azzouni, Kéo Nackphouminh, Adrien Lederer, and Bernard Quarante. Their debut album, (A Lament for...) The Addicts, released in 2007, showcased their raw talent and dark, brooding sound.

In 2021, Hangman's Chair signed with Nuclear Blast Records, ushering in a new era of their musical exploration. A Loner (2022) and Saddiction (2025) showcased the band's melodic, atmospheric style, incorporating gothic sounds and post-punk influences to create a hauntingly beautiful sonic experience.
