Formation and Early Years (2009–2010)

Guillotine emerged from the bustling metal scene of Delhi in 2009, bringing a unique blend of blues, jazz, and death metal influences to their sound. Their debut album, The Cynic, released in 2010, showcased their innovative approach to music, with lyrics delving into the hollowness of religious faith.

The band quickly made a name for themselves by winning first prize at the prestigious Rocktaves competition held at BITS, Pilani in 2009. This early success set the stage for Guillotine to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Indian metal scene.

Rise to Prominence (2010–2011)

In 2010, Guillotine further solidified their reputation by claiming the second prize at the National Rock Contest during the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland. Additionally, keyboardist Akshat Taneja was recognized for his exceptional talent, winning the best keyboard player award at the event.

The band's big break came when they were selected to open for Metallica in Gurgaon. Although the show was ultimately cancelled, Guillotine's opportunity to share the stage with metal legends only fueled their ambition. They eventually opened the Rock 'N India 2011 show for Metallica, alongside Inner Sanctum and Biffy Clyro, cementing their place in the metal pantheon.

Guillotine draws inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences, including Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Pink Floyd. Their sound is a testament to their eclectic tastes, incorporating elements of progressive metal, blues, and jazz into their compositions.
