Sinsaenum, the death metal supergroup that once included the late Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, has made a triumphant return to the music scene. Comprised of members from renowned bands like Kreator and Mayhem, Sinsaenum is gearing up to release their first studio album in seven years, titled “In Devastation,” as a tribute to Jordison and the band’s bandleader’s deceased father.
The lead single from the upcoming album, “In Devastation,” is already available for streaming, showcasing the band’s emotional journey following Jordison’s passing. Guitarist Frédéric Leclercq, known for his work with Dragonforce, expressed the band’s determination to carry on and honor the memories of their departed loved ones through their music.
Sinsaenum has maintained its original lineup, with vocalists from Mayhem and Dååth, along with guitarists from Loudblast and Kreator, and bassist from Seth. To fill the void left by Jordison, the band has enlisted his former drum tech, Andre Joyzi, who brings both technical prowess and a deep emotional connection to the group.
Founded in 2016, Sinsaenum quickly gained recognition with their EP and subsequent full-length debut, setting the stage for their unique blend of extreme metal influences. Leclercq’s passion for darker, heavier music found an outlet in Sinsaenum, allowing him to explore a different musical dimension beyond his work with Dragonforce.
Reflecting on the band’s origins, Leclercq revealed that a pivotal conversation with Jordison sparked the formation of Sinsaenum, emphasizing the genuine friendships and shared musical vision that fueled the project. Despite facing challenges in his own career, Jordison’s dedication to music persisted, leading him to collaborate with various artists, including Sinsaenum.
Jordison’s unexpected departure from Slipknot in 2013 marked a turning point in his musical journey, prompting him to explore new creative avenues with projects like Scar The Martyr and ultimately Sinsaenum. His untimely passing in 2021 left a void in the metal community, prompting heartfelt tributes and reflections on his enduring legacy.
While the circumstances surrounding Jordison’s death remain undisclosed, his family’s efforts to posthumously release his music underscore the lasting impact of his artistry. Sinsaenum’s decision to continue creating music in his honor serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring connections forged through shared musical experiences.
As fans eagerly await the release of Sinsaenum’s latest album, “In Devastation,” the band’s unwavering dedication to preserving Jordison’s memory shines through in their music, ensuring that his legacy lives on in the realm of heavy metal.
