Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rock icon, may have passed away nearly a year ago, but his digital presence is set to make a comeback. The Osbourne family has collaborated with Hyperreal and Proto Hologram to develop an AI-powered digital avatar of the Prince of Darkness. This digital version of Ozzy will possess his voice, image, and movements, allowing fans to interact with him through Proto Luma units in the U.K. and U.S. starting this summer.
During the announcement at Licensing Expo 2026 in Las Vegas, Sharon and Jack Osbourne revealed the details of this innovative project. According to Jack, the digital Ozzy will be able to respond to fans' questions in his own voice, offering authentic answers as if Ozzy himself were speaking. Sharon expressed excitement about taking the digital avatar on a global tour, enabling people to engage with Ozzy in a unique way.
Hyperreal's CEO, Remington Scott, explained that the technology behind the Ozzy avatar allows it to operate in real time, responding to audiences dynamically. The company's use of patented "Digital DNA" technology ensures that the avatar is created from authenticated source material, providing an interactive and immersive experience for fans. Proto Hologram's founder, David Nussbaum, emphasized the ethical sourcing of data for creating digital avatars, underscoring their commitment to preserving artists' legacies responsibly.
Notably, Hyperreal had previously developed a digital avatar of the late Stan Lee, which was unveiled at L.A. Comic Con in 2025. The success of the Stan Lee avatar showcased the potential of such technology in engaging with fans and preserving the essence of iconic figures. Sharon Osbourne's prior exposure to this technology played a crucial role in her decision to bring Ozzy back digitally, demonstrating her informed trust in the capabilities of Hyperreal and Proto Hologram.
During a panel discussion titled "The Enduring Legacy of a Rock Icon and His Family: Ozzy Osbourne and the Osbournes," Sharon and Jack Osbourne reflected on their commitment to managing their brand and legacy. Their hands-on approach to branding decisions, such as the creation of branded merchandise like rubber ducks tied to their TV show, highlights their dedication to maintaining the authenticity of their image.
Sharon expressed her desire for Ozzy to achieve the same enduring cultural impact as Elvis Presley, emphasizing the importance of preserving Ozzy's legacy for future generations. Nussbaum acknowledged the responsibility and honor of reviving a rock legend like Ozzy Osbourne through cutting-edge technology, ensuring that fans can continue to connect with him authentically.
Scott echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the goal of the digital avatar is not merely to create a static representation but to capture the essence of Ozzy's personality and connection with his fans. By leveraging technology to recreate Ozzy's presence in a digital format, the project aims to offer fans a timeless way to experience the rock icon's spirit and music for years to come.
