Nicko McBrain, the esteemed drummer of Iron Maiden, recently revealed in an interview that he remains a member of the band despite retiring from touring nearly a year ago. McBrain expressed his continued involvement with the Iron Maiden family, engaging in various band-related activities such as fan club interactions and appearances at conventions like Son Of Monsterpalooza.
When questioned about the prospect of contributing to a future Iron Maiden album, McBrain acknowledged that while there are currently no concrete plans for a new album, he remains open to the possibility of being invited to participate in a few songs should the opportunity arise.
McBrain candidly discussed the health challenges that led to his decision to step away from touring with Iron Maiden, particularly referencing the partial paralysis he experienced following a stroke in January 2023. This physical setback significantly impacted his drumming abilities, specifically hindering his capacity to perform intricate and fast-paced drum fills.
Reflecting on the circumstances surrounding his retirement, McBrain shared that the decision was influenced by his physical limitations, which made it challenging to deliver performances up to his own standards. The band, including founder Steve Harris, supported his choice to retire, recognizing the importance of prioritizing his well-being.
