Formation and Early Years (1995β2010)
Xasthur, the brainchild of American musician Scott "Malefic" Conner, emerged onto the black metal scene in 1995. With a raw and atmospheric sound, Xasthur quickly gained a following for their haunting and melancholic music.
Over the course of 15 years, Xasthur released eight studio albums, including the critically acclaimed albums "Telepathic with the Deceased" (2004) and "Defective Epitaph" (2007). These albums solidified Xasthur's reputation as pioneers of depressive black metal.
Acoustic Neofolk Transformation (2015βpresent)
In 2010, Scott Conner announced the end of Xasthur as a black metal project, marking the end of an era. However, in 2015, Conner surprised fans by reviving the Xasthur name to explore a new musical direction - acoustic neofolk.
The shift in style was evident in Xasthur's 2016 release, "Subject to Change", which showcased Conner's talent for crafting haunting melodies and introspective lyrics in a stripped-down acoustic setting.
Despite the evolution of Xasthur's sound over the years, their impact on the black metal scene remains undeniable. Scott Conner's ability to push boundaries and experiment with different genres has solidified Xasthur's legacy in the metal world.
