A History of Thunder

Formation and Early Success (1989–1992)

In 1989, Thunder burst onto the hard rock scene with their debut album Backstreet Symphony, which quickly climbed to number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. Led by the powerful vocals of Danny Bowes and the impressive guitar work of Luke Morley, the band captivated audiences with their energetic performances and catchy melodies.

The following year, Thunder solidified their place in the rock world with the release of Laughing on Judgement Day in 1992. This album reached an impressive number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. With all nine singles from their first two albums hitting the UK top 40, Thunder was on a roll.

Lineup Changes and Continued Success (1993–1998)

After the departure of bassist Mark Luckhurst in late 1992, Thunder welcomed Mikael Höglund to the band in early 1993. Together, they released the album Behind Closed Doors, which peaked at number 5 in the UK and produced three top 40 singles. Despite lineup changes, Thunder continued to thrive in the rock scene.

In 1996, Chris Childs joined the band as the new bassist, and Thunder released their fourth studio album The Thrill of It All, which reached the UK top 20. The band's live album Live in 1998 and fifth studio album Giving the Game Away in 1999 further solidified their place in the rock world.

Hiatus and Resurgence (2000–2017)

In early 2000, Thunder disbanded due to external pressures, but they made a triumphant return in 2002. Establishing their own record label, STC Recordings, the band released a series of successful albums, including Shooting at the Sun in 2003 and The Magnificent Seventh in 2005. Despite announcing another breakup in 2009, Thunder returned in 2011 for a string of live performances.

Their comeback was solidified with the release of Wonder Days in 2015, which reached number 9 on the UK Albums Chart. Rip It Up followed in 2017, peaking at number 3. Thunder's resilience and dedication to their craft have cemented their status as legends in the heavy metal world.
