Formation and Early Years (2002β2009)
In the dark and desolate streets of Novara, Italy, a group of musical visionaries came together in 2002 to form the avant-garde grindcore band Psychofagist. With a unique blend of noise music, technical death metal, punk jazz, and free improvisation, they unleashed their debut split-CD 'Selfless Spite' with Belgian grindcore band Hybrid Viscery in 2003. The band's first self-titled full-length album followed in 2004, setting the stage for their experimental journey.
Il Secondo Tragico and Beyond (2009β2013)
As the years passed, Psychofagist continued to push the boundaries of extreme music with releases like 'Il Secondo Tragico' in December 2009. Their sonic exploration led them to collaborate with polish industrial-grinders Antigama on a split-CD entitled '9 Psalms of an Anti-music to come' in January 2012, featuring a haunting cover of Tom Waits's 'Misery Is the River of the World'. Despite their innovative work, the band made the bittersweet announcement of their disbandment on 9 December 2013, leaving a void in the underground metal scene.
Rise of Syk (2013β2016)
From the ashes of Psychofagist emerged a new force in experimental metal - Syk. Guitarist Stef and drummer Fed joined forces with singer Dalila Kayros and bassist Luca Pissavini to create a sonic landscape like no other. With the release of their debut album 'atoma' in 2014 and its follow-up 'I-Optikon' in 2016 through Philip Anselmo's Housecore Records, Syk cemented their place in the realm of avant-garde heaviness.
Though Psychofagist may have disbanded, their legacy lives on through the groundbreaking music they created. Syk continues to push the boundaries of experimental metal, carrying the torch of innovation and fearless creativity.
