A History of Sabaton

Formation and Early Years (1999–2004)

In the dark and frosty lands of Falun, Sweden, the seeds of Sabaton were planted in 1999. Lead singer Joakim Brodén, bassist Pär Sundström, guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, and drummer Richard Larsson joined forces to create a powerhouse of power metal. With a shared passion for history, particularly wars and battles, Sabaton set out to conquer the metal world.

After signing with Black Lodge Records, Sabaton unleashed their debut studio album, 'Primo Victoria', upon the world in 2005. The album showcased their signature sound and lyrical themes, setting the stage for what was to come.

Rise to Glory (2005–2012)

The years following their debut saw Sabaton rise to glory with a string of powerful releases. 'Attero Dominatus' in 2006, 'Metalizer' in 2007, and 'The Art of War' in 2008 solidified their place in the power metal pantheon. With each album, Sabaton honed their craft, delivering epic anthems that resonated with fans around the world.

In 2010, Sabaton signed with Nuclear Blast and released 'Coat of Arms', further cementing their status as one of the leading bands in the genre. The release of 'Carolus Rex' in 2012 marked a new chapter for Sabaton, showcasing their ability to tackle historical concepts with depth and emotion.

Continued Success (2014–2019)

As the years passed, Sabaton continued to conquer the metal scene with albums like 'Heroes' in 2014 and 'The Last Stand' in 2016. With 'The Great War' in 2019, Sabaton reached new heights, delivering a concept album that paid homage to the sacrifices of those who fought in World War I.

Their latest studio album, 'Legends', released in 2025, showcases Sabaton's continued evolution and commitment to their craft. With eleven studio albums, four live albums, five live DVDs, and thirty music videos under their belt, Sabaton stands as a testament to the enduring power of heavy metal.
