A History of Runemagick

Formation and Early Years (1990–1993)

In the dark and desolate year of 1990, the seeds of Swedish death/doom metal were sown by Nicklas "Terror" Rudolfsson with the formation of Runemagick, originally known as Desiderius. Joined by Robert "Reaper" Pehrsson, the band delved into the realms of pure death metal, drawing inspiration from legends like Bathory and Celtic Frost.

Despite early promise, the band faced turmoil and disbanded in 1993, leaving a void in the underground metal scene. However, Rudolfsson was not one to be deterred, and in 1997, he resurrected Runemagick with a new lineup, adding Fredrik Johnsson on guitar and Peter Palmdahl on bass, solidifying their sound with a touch of doom metal influence.

Record Deal and Line-Up Changes (1997–2000)

With the addition of the mystical 'k' to their name, Runemagick embarked on a new journey, capturing the attention of Century Media Records with a powerful rehearsal demo. This led to a record deal for three albums, marking a significant milestone in their career.

Despite facing numerous line-up changes, the band continued to forge ahead, eventually parting ways with Century Media in 2000. Finding solace in the Norwegian label Aftermath Music, Runemagick continued their dark musical odyssey, undeterred by the challenges that came their way.

Hiatus and Resurgence (2007–2018)

Following the release of the haunting album 'Dawn of the End' in 2007, Runemagick descended into a deep slumber, leaving fans yearning for their return. It wasn't until 2017 that the band emerged from the shadows, ready to unleash their dark magic once more upon the world.

In 2018, Runemagick marked their triumphant return with the release of 'Evoked From Abysmal Sleep', a testament to their unwavering commitment to their craft. With a live performance at Kill-Town Deathfest in Copenhagen, Denmark, the band proved that their legacy of darkness and doom still reigns supreme.

Through their tumultuous journey, Runemagick has left an indelible mark on the realms of death/doom metal, inspiring countless bands to embrace the darkness within. Their legacy continues to echo through the annals of heavy metal history, a testament to their enduring influence.
