A History of Profanum (band)

Formation and Early Years (1993–1997)

In the dark and tumultuous year of 1993, the Polish music scene was forever changed with the birth of Profanum in Zielona Góra. Founded by the enigmatic trio known as Geryon, Vlad Ysengrimm, and Lord Reyash, the band delved into the realms of black metal with their debut demo 'Under the Black Wings of Emperor.' Drawing inspiration from the likes of Mystifier and Rotting Christ, Profanum quickly made a name for themselves with their raw and intense sound.

By 1996, the band caught the attention of Astral Wings Records, who released their debut album 'Flowers of Our Black Misanthropy.' However, it was their second album 'Profanum Aeternum: Eminence of Satanic Imperial Art,' released in 1997 by Pagan Records, that truly showcased their evolution towards a more ambient and industrial-influenced style.

Resurgence and Musical Evolution (2000–2005)

After a brief hiatus, Profanum returned in 2000 without bassist Lord Reyash and began crafting their next masterpiece 'Musaeum Esotericum,' released in 2001. This album marked a shift towards more experimental and avant-garde sounds, incorporating elements of classical music and esoteric themes. Collaborating once again with Pagan Records, the band reissued their debut album in 2002 as 'Misantropiae Floris,' introducing new tracks and showcasing their growth as musicians.

In 2003, Profanum ventured into the realm of film, composing music for the psychedelic masterpiece 'Intelekt Kollapse.' Their sonic exploration continued in 2005 with the release of the film on DVD, featuring haunting audio tracks that captivated audiences.

Legacy and Influence

Although Profanum's activities have been shrouded in mystery since 2005, their impact on the metal scene remains undeniable. Their fearless exploration of themes such as misanthropy, nihilism, and postmodernism set them apart as true pioneers of the genre.
