A History of Our Survival Depends on Us

Formation and Early Years (1999–2005)

In the dark, misty streets of Salzburg, Austria, the seeds of Our Survival Depends on Us were planted in 1999 by Mucho Kolb and Mani Eibner. The band released their first demo, 'Breathe,' in 2000, showcasing their post-metal / doom / sludge sound to the world.

As the years passed, Thom Kinberger and Hajot Gmeilbauer joined the ranks, bringing their own unique musical prowess to the band. With multiple lineup changes and short-time bassists, the core of OSDOU solidified with the addition of Barth Resch before recording their second album.

Rise to Prominence (2005–2015)

The year 2005 marked a significant milestone for Our Survival Depends on Us with the release of their debut studio album, 'Jumping Once Too Often into the Ocean That Had Always Been Our Inspiration.' This was followed by a CD reissue in 2007, solidifying their place in the post-metal scene.

With subsequent releases like 'Painful Stories Told with a Passion for Life' in 2009 and 'Scouts on the Borderline Between the Physical and Spiritual World' in 2015, OSDOU continued to captivate audiences with their haunting melodies and powerful lyrics.

Recent Years and Current Lineup (2015–present)

As the years rolled on, founding member Mani Eibner bid farewell to the band in 2014, paving the way for Thomas Apfelthaler to take over the drumming duties. With a lineup that includes Mucho Kolb, Hajot Gmeilbauer, Reiner Maislinger, and Klaus Buchebner, OSDOU signed with Ván Records and released 'Melting the Ice in the Hearts of Men' in 2019.

Their latest album showcases the band's evolution and growth, cementing their status as one of the most influential post-metal acts in the scene today.

With a rich history spanning over two decades, Our Survival Depends on Us has left an indelible mark on the metal world. Their unique blend of post-metal, doom, and sludge continues to inspire and captivate fans worldwide, ensuring their legacy lives on for years to come.
