A History of Northward (band)

Formation and Initial Struggles (2007–2008)

In 2007, the seeds of a powerful hard rock duo were planted when Dutch vocalist Floor Jansen of Nightwish and Norwegian guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad of Pagan's Mind came together to form Northward. Their creative chemistry was undeniable, and they wasted no time in crafting an entire album's worth of music in 2008.

However, despite their enthusiasm and dedication, the duo faced setbacks in the form of label issues and their hectic schedules. This unfortunate turn of events prevented them from recording the album and forced them to put their project on hold.

Reunion and Debut Album (2017–2018)

After nearly a decade of waiting, Floor Jansen and Jørn Viggo Lofstad reunited in 2017 to finally bring their vision to life. With renewed determination and a burning passion for their music, they entered the studio to record the long-awaited album. The result was a powerful and dynamic collection of songs that showcased their undeniable talent and chemistry.

On 19 October 2018, Northward's self-titled debut album was unleashed upon the world by Nuclear Blast. Filled with infectious melodies, soaring vocals, and blistering guitar work, the album was met with critical acclaim and solidified the duo's place in the hard rock scene.

Studio Project and Future Plans

Despite the success of their debut album, Floor Jansen made it clear that Northward was intended to be a studio side-project rather than a full-fledged band. With both members heavily involved in their respective main bands, Nightwish and Pagan's Mind, the duo acknowledged the limitations of Northward's live performance potential. Nevertheless, the project served as a creative outlet for Jansen and Lofstad to explore new musical territories and push their boundaries.

As they continue to balance their commitments to their main bands, fans eagerly anticipate any future releases or collaborations that may emerge from the Northward camp.
