A History of Imperial Triumphant

Imperial Triumphant: Pioneering the Avant-Garde in Metal

Imperial Triumphant is a band that has been pushing the boundaries of extreme metal since their formation in 2005. Hailing from New York City, the trio consists of Zachary Ilya Ezrin on vocals and guitars, Steve Blanco on bass and vocals, and Kenny Grohowski on drums. Their unique blend of black metal, death metal, jazz, and avant-garde influences has earned them a reputation as one of the most innovative and daring bands in the metal scene today.

The band’s early years saw them honing their sound and playing shows in the underground metal scene of New York City. Drawing inspiration from avant-garde composers like Igor Stravinsky and Arnold Schoenberg, as well as from black metal pioneers such as Mayhem and Emperor, Imperial Triumphant began to develop a sound that was both brutal and sophisticated.

In 2012, the band released their debut album, “Abominamentvm,” which was met with critical acclaim for its complex song structures, dissonant harmonies, and intense atmosphere. The album showcased the band’s ability to seamlessly blend elements of black and death metal with avant-garde influences, creating a sound that was truly original and groundbreaking.

Following the success of their debut album, Imperial Triumphant continued to push the boundaries of their sound with their sophomore release, “Abyssal Gods,” in 2015. This album saw the band incorporating elements of jazz and classical music into their already eclectic mix, resulting in a record that was even more challenging and ambitious than their debut.

In 2018, Imperial Triumphant released their third album, “Vile Luxury,” which was hailed as a masterpiece of avant-garde metal. The album featured a guest appearance from avant-garde jazz saxophonist Colin Stetson, further expanding the band’s sonic palette and solidifying their reputation as one of the most forward-thinking bands in the metal scene.

One of the most striking aspects of Imperial Triumphant’s music is their use of dissonant harmonies, unconventional song structures, and complex rhythms. The band’s music is challenging and cerebral, requiring multiple listens to fully appreciate the depth and intricacy of their compositions.

In addition to their innovative approach to music, Imperial Triumphant is also known for their visually stunning live performances. The band incorporates elements of theater and performance art into their shows, creating an immersive and otherworldly experience for their audience.

Imperial Triumphant’s uncompromising commitment to artistic excellence and their willingness to push the boundaries of what is considered metal music have earned them a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike. With each release, the band continues to defy expectations and redefine the possibilities of extreme metal, solidifying their status as one of the most important and influential bands in the genre today.
