A History of Drowned

Formation and Early Years (1996–2001)

Drowning Pool emerged from the depths of Dallas, Texas in 1996, fueled by a passion for heavy riffs and intense melodies. With guitarist C.J. Pierce, drummer Mike Luce, and bassist Stevie Benton at the helm, the band set out to make their mark on the rock scene. Inspired by the film 'The Drowning Pool', they chose a name that would symbolize their powerful and immersive sound.

In 2001, Drowning Pool unleashed their debut album, 'Sinner', which quickly gained attention for its raw energy and aggressive vocals. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when original vocalist Dave Williams passed away in 2002, leaving a void in the band that would shape their future.

Lineup Changes and Evolution (2003–2011)

With the departure of Williams, Drowning Pool faced the challenge of finding a new frontman. Jason Jones stepped in as the band's vocalist in 2003, contributing to their second album, 'Desensitized', released in 2004. However, musical differences led to Jones parting ways with the band in 2005.

Ryan McCombs of SOiL took the reins as Drowning Pool's vocalist, bringing a fresh perspective to the group. Over the next few years, McCombs recorded two albums with the band, 'Full Circle' in 2007 and 'Drowning Pool' in 2010, marking a period of stability and growth for the band.

Longest-Serving Vocalist and Recent Years (2011–2023)

In a surprising turn of events, Ryan McCombs departed from Drowning Pool in 2011 to return to his roots with SOiL. Jasen Moreno stepped up to the mic, becoming the band's longest-serving vocalist. With Moreno at the helm, Drowning Pool released three albums – 'Resilience' in 2013, 'Hellelujah' in 2016, and 'Strike a Nerve' in 2022, solidifying their place in the metal scene.

However, in March 2023, Moreno bid farewell to Drowning Pool, paving the way for McCombs to make a triumphant return to the band. As they continue to evolve and push the boundaries of their sound, Drowning Pool remains a force to be reckoned with in the world of heavy metal.

With a history marked by triumphs and tribulations, Drowning Pool has left an indelible mark on the metal landscape. Their relentless energy, powerful performances, and unwavering dedication to their craft have solidified their legacy as icons of the genre.
