A History of Crow Black Sky

Formation and Early Years (2009–2010)

In April 2009, Crow Black Sky emerged from the depths of Cape Town, South Africa, founded by Kean Malcolmson and Stephen Spinas. The addition of lead guitarist Gideon Lamprecht and vocalist Ryan Higgo quickly solidified the lineup, leading to their first live performance later that year.

With the release of their debut album, 'Pantheion,' in December 2010, Crow Black Sky made a mark on the international black metal scene. The self-produced record showcased their raw talent and musical prowess, earning them praise from critics worldwide.

Lineup Changes and Musical Evolution (2011–2012)

Following the release of 'Pantheion,' Crow Black Sky experienced several lineup changes, including shifts in guitarists and drummers. Despite the challenges, the band continued to hone their craft, blending progressive elements with classical and atmospheric influences.

By the end of 2012, the lineup stabilized with Gideon Lamprecht on guitars, Ryan Higgo on bass and vocals, and Lawrence Jaeger on drums. This period of musical exploration laid the foundation for their future cosmic black metal sound.

Return with 'Sidereal Light: Volume One' (2018)

After a brief hiatus, Crow Black Sky made a triumphant return on 17 January 2018 with 'Sidereal Light: Volume One.' This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the band, delving deeper into cosmic themes and pushing the boundaries of their black metal roots.

The album was met with critical acclaim, solidifying Crow Black Sky's position as a force to be reckoned with in the metal underground. Their unique blend of aggression, melody, and atmosphere captivated listeners and set them apart from their peers.
