A History of Carnosus

In the dimly lit recesses of the underground metal scene, where darkness reigns supreme and sonic extremity knows no bounds, Carnosus emerges as a formidable entity, a beacon of relentless aggression and unyielding power. Born from the depths of Vancouver, Canada, in 2015, this death metal juggernaut has carved its name into the annals of extreme music with a ferocity that demands attention. Join me as we delve into the tumultuous history of Carnosus, a band forged in fire and fueled by unbridled passion.

Carnosus burst onto the scene with a singular mission: to deliver a sonic assault of unparalleled intensity. Formed by vocalist Jesse Bergen, guitarist Alex Mealey, guitarist Connor Erhart, bassist Devon Greville, and drummer Jay Cross, the band wasted no time in unleashing their debut EP, “Ascend,” in 2016. From the opening salvo of “Sulphur Injection” to the bone-crushing finale of “Vimana,” “Ascend” announced Carnosus as a force to be reckoned with, blending razor-sharp riffing, thunderous drumming, and guttural vocals into a potent concoction of pure sonic devastation.

Buoyed by the success of “Ascend,” Carnosus embarked on a relentless live campaign, honing their craft on stages across Western Canada and earning a reputation as a must-see act within the local metal scene. Their electrifying performances, characterized by frenetic energy and unbridled aggression, drew fans into their dark and twisted world, cementing Carnosus as one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Canadian underground.

In 2018, Carnosus unleashed their debut full-length album, “Dogma of the Deceased,” upon an unsuspecting world. A relentless barrage of sonic fury, “Dogma of the Deceased” showcased the band’s evolution as songwriters and musicians, weaving together intricate compositions with devastating precision. Tracks like “Necropolis” and “Parasitic” demonstrated Carnosus’s mastery of dynamics, seamlessly transitioning between bone-crushing heaviness and haunting atmospheric passages.

But Carnosus’s ascent to prominence was not without its challenges. Like many bands navigating the treacherous waters of the underground metal scene, they faced lineup changes and logistical hurdles along the way. Yet, through sheer determination and unwavering resolve, Carnosus persevered, emerging stronger and more focused than ever before.

In 2021, Carnosus unleashed their sophomore album, “AI Apothecary,” a seething cauldron of sonic malevolence that pushed the boundaries of their sound to new and terrifying heights. From the punishing grooves of “Blight” to the frenzied chaos of “Wormtongue,” “AI Apothecary” served as a testament to Carnosus’s relentless pursuit of sonic perfection.

As they continue to blaze a trail of destruction across the metal landscape, Carnosus stands as a shining example of the power of perseverance and passion in the face of adversity. With their uncompromising dedication to their craft and their unrelenting commitment to pushing the boundaries of extreme music, Carnosus is poised to conquer new realms of sonic darkness in the years to come, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
