Formation and Early Years (1978–1980)

In the gritty streets of East Los Angeles, a trio of Chicano punk rockers came together in late 1978 to form the groundbreaking band known as The Brat. Lead singer Teresa Covarrubias, along with lead guitarist Rudy Medina and alternate lead and rhythm guitarist Sidney Medina, set out to create a sound that would challenge the status quo and redefine the punk rock scene.

Their hard-hitting debut EP, 'Attitudes', released in 1980 under the independent label Fatima Records, quickly garnered attention for its raw energy and unique blend of musical influences. The Brat's music not only rocked the punk world but also served as a testament to the power of cultural transformation and resistance against dominant ideologies.

Rise to Prominence (1981–1983)

As The Brat's reputation grew, so did their impact on the East Los Angeles punk movement. With their fierce live performances and socially conscious lyrics, the band solidified their place as pioneers in the scene. Songs like 'The Wolf' and 'High School' showcased their ability to blend punk aggression with Chicano pride, earning them a dedicated following.
