A History of Ava Inferi

Formation and Debut Album (2005–2006)

In the darkened corners of Almada, Portugal, Norwegian guitarist Rune Eriksen planted the seeds of Ava Inferi in 2005. Known for his work with Mayhem as Blasphemer, Eriksen set out to create a unique blend of gothic and doom metal.

The band's debut album, 'Burdens,' emerged from the shadows in January 2006, showcasing their haunting melodies and melancholic atmosphere. Carmen Susana Simões' vocals added a captivating layer to Eriksen's intricate guitar work, setting the stage for Ava Inferi's rise in the metal scene.

The Silhouette and Blood of Bacchus (2007–2009)

With vocalist Simões lending her voice to Moonspell's 'Under Satanæ' re-recording in 2007, Ava Inferi continued to carve their path in the realm of gothic metal. Their sophomore album, 'The Silhouette,' released in October 2007, further solidified their signature sound.

In 2009, the band unleashed 'Blood of Bacchus,' a record that delved deeper into their dark, introspective themes. The combination of Eriksen's guitar prowess and Simões' emotive vocals created a sonic landscape that resonated with fans of the genre.

Onyx and Disbandment (2011–2013)

As the years passed, Ava Inferi continued to evolve, culminating in the release of 'Onyx' in February 2011. This fourth studio album showcased the band's growth and maturity, with tracks like 'Majesty' and 'The Living End' captivating listeners with their ethereal beauty.

However, all good things must come to an end. In a somber announcement on 23 May 2013, Rune Eriksen declared the disbandment of Ava Inferi, leaving behind a legacy of haunting melodies and emotional depth that would forever linger in the hearts of their fans.

Despite their relatively short-lived existence from 2005 to 2013, Ava Inferi left an indelible mark on the gothic and doom metal genres. Their unique blend of melancholy and melody continues to inspire bands and fans alike, proving that their legacy will endure for years to come.
