A History of Ashes You Leave

Formation and Early Years (1995–1998)

In the dark and brooding metal scene of the mid-90s, a group of musicians from Rijeka, Croatia, came together under the name Icon. After releasing their demo "...But Dreaming," they realized another band shared the same moniker. Thus, in 1995, Icon transformed into Ashes You Leave, inspired by Cathedral's song "Ashes You Leave." Their second demo, "The Kingdom Before the Lies," followed in 1996.

Despite setbacks with record labels, Ashes You Leave persevered and signed with Morbid Records. Their debut album, "The Passage Back to Life," emerged in 1998, setting the stage for their unique blend of doom, gothic, and death metal to captivate audiences worldwide.

Rise and Evolution (1999–2006)

The late 90s and early 2000s saw Ashes You Leave continue their musical journey with albums like "Desperate Existence" (1999) and "The Inheritance of Sin and Shame" (2000). These releases solidified their place in the metal scene, leading to a successful European tour.

After lineup changes and the departure of lead vocalist Dunja Radetic, Marina Zrilic stepped in for the album "Fire" (2002). The band's sound evolved, incorporating new elements while staying true to their melancholic roots.

Rebirth and Recent Years (2006–present)

In 2006, Ashes You Leave welcomed Tamara Mulaosmanovic as vocalist and keyboardist, marking a new chapter in their musical exploration. The album "Songs of the Lost" (2009) showcased their growth and maturity, earning critical acclaim.

With a management deal with Rock N Growl Records in 2011, the band released their seventh studio album, "The Cure for Happiness," in 2012. Ashes You Leave's ability to blend haunting melodies with crushing riffs continues to captivate fans, cementing their status as a force to be reckoned with in the metal world.
