Defects, a heavy metal band, has been announced as the headline act for the BBC Radio WM celebration Metal in the Midlands, a special event honoring the iconic band Black Sabbath. The final line-up for the celebration, set to take place at Birmingham Town Hall on 2 July, has been revealed. This event precedes Black Sabbath’s final gig at Villa Park on 5 July, marking a significant moment for the legendary band and their fans.
Hard rock act Defects will take the stage as the headliner, sharing the spotlight with other notable acts such as Black Parade and Download DJ Em Masters. The event will also feature a Flatpack Festival short film compilation, adding a unique visual element to the celebration. Previously announced acts Cherrydead, Gans, and Meatdripper will also be part of the line-up, promising a diverse and exciting showcase of metal music.
Harry Jennings, the drummer for Defects and a Birmingham native, expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the event, stating that it is an honor for the band to represent metal in the Midlands during this iconic week. Jennings highlighted the personal significance of performing at the Town Hall, a venue with deep-rooted memories for the band and their families.
The upcoming Black Sabbath gig at Villa Park on 5 July is expected to draw a massive crowd of up to 41,000 heavy metal enthusiasts. The Birmingham Town Hall event will be hosted by comedian Darren Harriott, a metal aficionado and presenter on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio WM. Additionally, a short film compilation will delve into the global influence of metal music, showcasing its impact across borders and cultures.
