Zealot, a Houston trio, blends crusty D-beat and death metal in their music. The band draws inspiration from a mix of influences, including Nuclear Death Terror and Celtic Frost. Their sound is a fusion of various styles, with notable influences like Hellshock, Stormcrow, Poison Idea, Disrupt, and Bolt Thrower.
The band’s formation during the COVID lockdowns brought together drummer CJ and guitarist Max, who later welcomed bassist Kirk as their vocalist. Zealot’s recent 2-track release aims to showcase Kirk’s vocals and the band’s evolution over the past year. The demo is currently available on streaming platforms, with a tape release in the pipeline.
Zealot’s future plans include a split release with fellow Houston band Desadaptado Social, followed by a potential tour to support the collaboration. The band also has extra material that may culminate in an EP or another split, indicating a busy schedule ahead.
Owner of No Echo, Carlos Ramirez, sheds light on Zealot’s journey, emphasizing the band’s aim to diversify their musical offerings. Ramirez’s extensive musical background adds depth to his insights on Zealot’s unique blend of genres and the band’s trajectory in the hardcore scene.
In an industry that thrives on innovation and experimentation, Zealot’s fusion of punk and metal elements adds a fresh perspective to the hardcore music landscape. Their willingness to push boundaries and explore diverse sounds positions them as a promising force in the underground music scene.
As Zealot continues to carve out their niche in the music industry, their collaboration with Desadaptado Social and upcoming releases hint at a dynamic future for the band. By staying true to their eclectic influences and passion for experimentation, Zealot is set to make waves in the hardcore and metal music spheres.
