Illawarra metal band Segression, known for their heavy sound, is set to release a new track titled ‘Blood on the Sixth’. The band, consisting of members Adam Bunnell, Michael Katselos, Chris Rand, and Chris ‘Sven’ Sellin, drew inspiration from the current global situation while in lockdown to create this latest piece.
Back in 1997, Segression unveiled the title track to their Fifth of the Fifth album, influenced by the prophecies of Nostradamus. Fast forward to today, the band found themselves separated physically due to the lockdown but united in their creative process. Bassist and vocalist Chris Rand highlighted the relevance of the song’s message, emphasizing the reality of the current crisis and the impact it has had on people worldwide.
The new track, ‘Blood on the Sixth’, serves as a sequel to their previous work and was born out of the unique circumstances imposed by the pandemic. Rand and Sellin embarked on the songwriting journey less than two weeks ago, navigating the challenges of remote collaboration and individual recording sessions. This departure from their usual approach marked a significant shift in their creative process.
Unlike their previous projects, ‘Blood on the Sixth’ was entirely self-produced, with the band members handling every aspect of the recording, mixing, and mastering process. This hands-on approach allowed them to maintain full creative control and deliver a raw, authentic piece that encapsulates the spirit of Segression.
Despite the unexpected turn of events that led to the song’s creation, the band had actually been contemplating a sequel to their earlier track for about a year. The lockdown provided the perfect opportunity to delve into this project wholeheartedly, channeling their energy and focus into bringing their vision to life.
Segression’s upcoming release is scheduled to hit streaming platforms this week, ideally on a significant date, the “sixth of the fifth”. Reflecting on their journey, the band’s history is rich with notable achievements, having shared the stage with renowned international acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Slipknot, Fear Factory, and Soulfly during their initial run from 1996 to 2003.
After a hiatus that lasted until 2009, Segression regrouped and continued to pursue their passion for heavy metal music, releasing albums like ‘Never Dead’ and ‘Painted In Blood’. The band’s resilience and dedication to their craft have allowed them to endure challenges and evolve creatively over the years.
In the face of adversity, Segression has demonstrated their ability to adapt and thrive, turning obstacles into opportunities for artistic exploration. ‘Blood on the Sixth’ stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment to their music and their willingness to push boundaries to create meaningful and impactful work.
