The Latin American leg of Zulu’s tour has been abruptly terminated by the promoter following serious abuse allegations against the band’s lead vocalist, Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad. The decision came after a detailed exposé by an individual claiming to be Muhammad’s partner, accusing him of a pattern of physical abuse and harassment towards her and others. In response, Muhammad vehemently denied the allegations, asserting his innocence and disavowing any form of coercion or violence.
The situation escalated further when the band’s former drummer, Don Brown, hinted at similar issues with Muhammad, hinting at his departure from the group due to the singer’s behavior. Amidst the growing controversy, the promoter, New Direction Productions, made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining tour dates in Latin America to uphold the integrity and safety of all involved.
Despite allowing Zulu to perform at the NDP Fest in Sao Paolo without Muhammad, the promoters faced mounting pressure from various stakeholders, including bands, fans, and promoters from different regions, leading to the cancellation of shows in cities like Medellin, San Jose, Mexico City, and Monterrey. The decision was rooted in a commitment to denounce all forms of violence, both physical and psychological, particularly against vulnerable individuals.
The promoter’s statement emphasized the importance of maintaining a hardcore music scene built on integrity, respect, and collective accountability. While the band has not officially commented on Muhammad’s status, their social media activity suggests a potential rift, with the singer no longer being followed on Zulu’s Instagram account. Furthermore, the band’s website has removed all upcoming tour dates following their last performance in Sao Paolo.
