Overkill Frontman Reveals 2026 Album Release Plans and Evolution

In a recent interview with Moshpit Passion, Overkill’s frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth revealed that fans eagerly awaiting a new album will have to wait until at least 2026. Ellsworth outlined the band’s timeline, indicating that they plan to start writing in the first half of 2025, with recording slated for the end of that year and a potential release in 2026.

Regarding the band’s evolution, Ellsworth discussed the internal dynamics of Overkill and how changes, whether in music or lineup, are often more noticeable to those within the band. He emphasized that the band’s ability to adapt and make decisions based on their internal workings has been crucial, especially with personnel changes.

Reflecting on the departure of former drummer Jason Bittner, Ellsworth acknowledged his talent but highlighted the necessity of change, particularly when tensions within the band could potentially lead to its downfall. He stressed the importance of reinvention at their stage, focusing on strengthening existing strengths rather than radically altering the band’s identity.

At 65, Ellsworth is prioritizing honing his skills and maintaining his health to deliver top-notch performances. He mentioned quitting smoking and vaping, noting the positive impact it had on his vocal abilities and overall performance quality. Ellsworth expressed confidence in the band’s current sound, emphasizing a return to their roots with a renewed sense of passion and energy.

Amidst these changes, Overkill introduced Jeramie Kling as their new drummer, following Bittner’s departure earlier in the year. Kling’s addition to the lineup was announced at the Posada Rock festival in Romania on August 30, marking a new chapter for the band as they continue to evolve and solidify their sound.

Ellsworth’s reflections shed light on Overkill’s commitment to staying true to their core strengths while embracing necessary changes to ensure their longevity in the metal scene. As they gear up for the next phase of their musical journey, fans can anticipate a blend of tradition and innovation in Overkill’s upcoming album slated for release in 2026.
