Gorod, the progressive death metal band, is gearing up for the release of their tenth studio album, ‘Aethra’, set to hit the shelves on October 19th under Overpowered Records. Vocalist Julien Deyres delved into the creative process behind the album, hinting that this might just be their most exceptional work yet.
The album’s creation was a whirlwind, with Mathieu composing the ten tracks in just two months, and Julien penning all the lyrics in six weeks. The central theme of ‘Aethra’ revolves around the moon as a celestial entity, exploring various cults associated with it throughout history.
Julien shared that ‘Aethra’ offers a diverse musical experience, incorporating new elements like a darker and more melancholic ambiance, clean vocals, catchy choruses, while retaining Gorod’s signature groove and riffing style. He expressed immense satisfaction with the final product, considering it a standout in his musical career.
Comparing ‘Aethra’ to their previous album ‘A Maze of Recycled Creeds’, Julien noted that the new release takes a more straightforward approach, delving into uncharted melodic territories. He drew parallels between ‘Aethra’ and their earlier works like ‘Leading Vision’ and ‘A Perfect Absolution’, albeit with a fresh atmospheric twist.
Excitingly, Gorod is gearing up for a European tour alongside Beyond Creation and Brought by Pain, scheduled from the 1st to the 25th of November 2018. While plans for a US tour in 2019 and other global performances are in the pipeline, nothing concrete has been finalized yet.
When asked about favorite metal bands from France, Julien highlighted a diverse range including Deathspell Omega, Gojira, Benighted, and more, showcasing the rich metal landscape in their homeland.
Julien shed light on the band members’ day jobs, revealing the challenges of balancing music with their professions. From being a tour guide to teaching music, each member navigates a unique work-life balance, making touring a demanding yet rewarding endeavor.
In closing, Julien expressed the band’s eagerness to hit the stage and connect with fans, emphasizing their love for live performances. With a cheerful sign-off from France, Gorod’s anticipation for upcoming shows and interactions with their audience shines through.
