A glam metal band from the golden age of MTV is set to perform a 40th-anniversary show in the Lehigh Valley. Originally known as Teeze, the band later rebranded as Roughhouse and gained fame in the mid-1980s alongside iconic acts like Poison, Skid Row, and Cinderella. Despite the band’s breakup following the decline of glam metal, they reunited nearly a decade ago and are now gearing up for a special performance at The Gin Mill and Grill in Northampton to commemorate their debut album.
Reflecting on their musical journey, Roughhouse members express gratitude for the enduring support of their fans who still cherish their music from the 1980s. Rhythm guitarist Gregg Malack shares his amazement at the band’s lasting impact, noting that few bands achieve the longevity and recognition they have experienced.
For the upcoming show, Roughhouse plans to play their original “Teeze” album in its entirety, in addition to tracks from their later Roughhouse releases and even some new material. Tickets are available for purchase in advance, offering fans a chance to relive the band’s classic hits and witness their evolution over the years.
Teeze, originating from Lansdale, Montgomery County, quickly rose to prominence as a cover band that transitioned into performing original music. Their unique sound and direction captivated audiences not only in the Lehigh Valley but also in Philadelphia and New York. The band’s transition to original compositions marked a turning point in their career, garnering widespread acclaim and media attention.
Despite facing the inevitable shifts in music trends, Roughhouse secured a record deal with Columbia Records and enjoyed a successful run that included appearances on MTV and opening for renowned rock acts. However, as the glam metal era faded, the band eventually disbanded in 1991, only to reunite sporadically for live performances over the years.
In a testament to their enduring passion for music, Roughhouse regrouped in 2017 and has since embarked on a new chapter in their musical journey. With plans to re-release their classic albums and potentially create new music, the band members are eager to explore fresh opportunities and engage with both loyal fans and new audiences.
Looking ahead, Roughhouse is committed to preserving their musical legacy while embracing future endeavors. Bassist Dave Weakley emphasizes the nostalgic power of music, noting how songs have the ability to transport listeners back to cherished memories and moments in their lives.
As they prepare for their milestone 40th-anniversary celebration, Roughhouse remains grateful for the unwavering support of their dedicated fan base. The band’s reunion signifies a continuation of their musical camaraderie and a shared journey of resilience and creativity in the ever-evolving music industry.
