Five Finger Death Punch’s crew raved about the Cohesion P.A. system used during the band’s extensive AfterLife tour. The tour spanned over 100 dates across Europe and North America, and the decision to use Cohesion was driven by the need for consistency and power in delivering the band’s intense metal sound. Bruce Reiter, the FOH engineer with over three decades of experience, emphasized the importance of replicating a perfect audio experience for both fans and artists every night.
Clair Global was responsible for deploying the Cohesion audio system, which included a setup of 12 to 16 Cohesion CO12 speakers on the main hangs, along with additional CO12 units on each side hang, tailored to the specific venue. The configuration also featured six CP218 II+ subwoofers per side, strategically placed in cardioid mode for optimal low-end delivery. Additionally, eight CO8 speakers were utilized as fill across the front stage, while 14 CM14 monitors were strategically positioned around the stage to ensure the band had clear, consistent audio monitoring.
Reiter praised the Cohesion system for its remarkable bottom-end output, even without the subwoofers fully engaged. He highlighted the system’s clarity and power, noting its ability to maintain consistent sound levels throughout the venue, even at considerable distances. System engineer Bob Alumbaugh, well-versed in handling audio for renowned acts like Aerosmith and Megadeth, lauded the Cohesion system’s ability to deliver exceptional sound projection, even at extreme distances within large arenas.
Reiter further emphasized the importance of the midrange frequencies in the mix, particularly for the guitars, which played a crucial role in the band’s sound. The Cohesion system excelled in reproducing the midrange frequencies accurately, ensuring that each element of the mix was distinct without distortion. Alumbaugh echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the system allowed the guitars to shine prominently without overshadowing the vocals, showcasing its versatility and power in handling various sonic elements.
The crew’s positive experience with the Cohesion P.A. system on the AfterLife tour underscores the critical role of advanced audio technology in enhancing live performances for both artists and audiences. The cohesion system’s ability to deliver consistent, powerful sound across diverse venues showcases the evolution of audio technology in meeting the demands of modern music production and live performances. As technology continues to advance, the integration of cutting-edge audio systems like Cohesion is set to redefine the live music experience, offering unprecedented clarity, power, and reliability for both performers and listeners alike.
