Seattle’s death metal scene sees the emergence of Degraved, a new project featuring members from Cavurn and Ebony Pendant. NE, the mastermind behind Degraved, shares that the band was born out of a desire for fast, dark riffs. The pandemic provided the perfect opportunity to explore new musical territories, with NE taking on guitar duties and exploring a sinister, infernal sound influenced by bands like Incantation and Cianide.
The demo, titled “Exhumed Remnants,” showcases Degraved’s raw and murky aesthetic, reminiscent of early death metal acts like Infester. NE’s engineering skills come into play as he handles the recording process, layering drums, guitars, bass, and vocals to create a haunting sonic landscape. The band’s logo, crafted with inspiration from classic death metal aesthetics, sets the tone for the demo’s unrelenting sound.
Each track on “Exhumed Remnants” offers a unique experience, from the relentless speed of the title track to the filthiness of “Corpse Fermentation,” inspired by gruesome imagery from Cannibal Corpse lyrics. The demo culminates in “Incinerated,” blending Finnish and American death metal influences to create a blackened, infernal atmosphere.
Set for release on March 5 through Gurgling Gore, “Exhumed Remnants” represents Degraved’s initial foray into the metal scene. NE praises the label’s dedication to underground music and hints at future releases and live performances. As the band looks to expand its lineup and solidify its sound, fans can anticipate more dark, aggressive music from this promising new outfit.
With a full band lineup on the horizon and plans for future demos and a full-length album, Degraved is poised to make a significant impact on the Seattle metal scene. NE’s vision for the band, combined with his passion for crafting intense, atmospheric music, sets the stage for an exciting journey into the realms of extreme metal.
