Formed in San Jose, CA, in 1990, Dear Deceased’s distinct heavy sound and intricate compositions emerged from a blend of influences ranging from West Coast crossover thrash to post-punk, glam rock, industrial, grunge, and British heavy metal, with a notable nod to Black Sabbath. The band’s lineup included vocalist Erik Kliever, rhythm guitarist George Rice, bassist Mitchell French, guitarist Ryan Landes, and drummer Chris Musgrave.

Initially performing instrumentally, Dear Deceased’s search for a frontman reached a turning point during a live show when an unexpected vocalist took the stage, seamlessly harmonizing with the band’s dynamic instrumentals. With this addition, the band’s lineup solidified, leading to a recording session at the renowned House of Faith studio, resulting in recordings that quickly gained a cult following among fans.

Despite garnering label interest and a growing fanbase from their electrifying live shows, Dear Deceased disbanded before securing a record deal, causing their music to fade into obscurity. Years later, the band’s master tapes resurfaced, sparking a revival of their music, with Ripple Music stepping in to release the long-lost recordings.

The reissued material, meticulously curated by Ripple Music, features artwork by Rob Klem and archival photos by Brandy Bennet Jordan, staying true to Dear Deceased’s original vision. The band’s revival is part of Ripple Music’s ongoing project, Beneath The Desert Floor series, dedicated to unearthing forgotten gems from the stoner and desert rock era.

Dear Deceased’s tracklist includes a collection of powerful songs such as “Traffic,” “Better Than Life,” “River,” and more, showcasing the band’s diverse musical prowess. With members like Mitchell French on bass, Erik Kliever on vocals, Ryan Landes on guitar, Chris Musgrave on drums, and George Rice on guitar and bass, Dear Deceased’s reemergence promises to reignite interest in their unique sound.

As the band’s reissued album prepares for release, fans can anticipate a nostalgic journey back to the golden days of stoner and desert rock, reminiscent of other revered acts like Fireball Ministry, The Awesome Machine, and Witch White Canyon. Dear Deceased’s return signifies a resurgence of a bygone era, bringing their timeless music back into the spotlight for both old fans and new listeners to enjoy.
