Anubis Gate: Melodic Metal Pioneers Crafting Dynamic Soundscapes

Formed in the early 1980s, Anubis Gate traces its roots back to the metal outfit V-axe founded by Jesper M. Jensen and Henrik Fevre. Originally known as Graff Spee, the band garnered attention for their youthful energy and original material but eventually disbanded due to musical differences. Jesper and Per M. Jensen then ventured into Extreme Feedback before joining the thrash metal band Invocator in 1989.

After a series of musical pursuits, Jesper reunited with Morten Sørensen to create new material in a melodic heavy metal style. They enlisted Torben Askholm as the lead singer, a seasoned metal scene veteran. With a full lineup, they recorded their debut album, “Purification,” at Hansen Studios under the guidance of producer Jacob Hansen, known for his work with various respected bands.

“Purification” marked the beginning of Anubis Gate’s journey, with its concept album theme centered around battling inner demons and psychological cleansing, drawing parallels to the ancient Egyptian mythology of Anubis guiding souls. The album’s release in 2004 through Locomotive Music received positive reception, leading to the band’s decision to craft a follow-up album, incorporating Kim Olesen and Henrik Fevre as permanent members.

The band’s sophomore album, “A Perfect Forever,” released in 2005, showcased a more mature and diverse musical approach, solidifying Anubis Gate’s place in the metal scene. However, challenges arose when vocalist Torben faced temporary voice loss, prompting producer Jacob Hansen to step in as the new lead singer seamlessly.

Anubis Gate’s music style blends elements of classic heavy metal from the 80s, epic ambience of the 90s, and modern progressive influences. Drawing inspiration from a range of bands like Queensryche, Iron Maiden, and Fates Warning, the band’s sound is characterized by beautiful soundscapes, powerful vocals, and intricate riffing, setting them apart in the metal landscape.

Throughout their musical evolution, Anubis Gate has stayed true to their unique sound while continuously pushing boundaries and honing their craft. With a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim, the band continues to captivate audiences with their dynamic compositions and compelling storytelling, solidifying their position as a prominent force in the realm of melodic progressive metal.
