A History of Délétère

Délétère: Unfurling the Blackened Veil of Quebecois Metal

Hailing from the frostbitten landscapes of Quebec, Canada, Délétère is a black metal band that has carved a sinister path through the underground metal scene since their formation in 2009. With a sound that blends raw aggression, haunting melodies, and occult themes, Délétère has established themselves as one of the most captivating and enigmatic bands in the modern black metal scene.

The origins of Délétère can be traced back to the meeting of founding members Thorlei and Nekro in the icy forests of Quebec. United by their shared passion for black metal and a desire to create music that embodied the spirit of their homeland, the duo set out to form a band that would channel the dark energies of the Canadian wilderness into their music.

In 2012, Délétère released their debut EP, “666,” a raw and unrelenting assault of black metal fury that garnered the attention of the underground metal community. With its blistering riffs, frenzied blast beats, and venomous vocals, “666” served as a declaration of intent from Délétère, showcasing their uncompromising approach to black metal.

Building on the momentum of their debut, Délétère released their first full-length album, “Les heures de la peste,” in 2015. The album expanded upon the band’s sound, incorporating elements of atmospheric black metal and dark ambient music to create a haunting and immersive listening experience. Lyrically, “Les heures de la peste” delved into themes of pestilence, decay, and the apocalyptic, reflecting Délétère’s fascination with the darker aspects of human existence.

With each release, Délétère continued to refine their sound and push the boundaries of their music. Their second album, “Per Aspera Ad Pestilentiam,” released in 2017, showcased a more mature and expansive approach to songwriting, incorporating intricate melodies, haunting choir vocals, and atmospheric textures to create a truly immersive sonic experience.

In 2020, Délétère unleashed their most ambitious work to date with the release of their third album, “Theovorator: Babelis Testamentum.” A concept album exploring the myth of the Tower of Babel and its implications for mankind, “Theovorator” saw Délétère reaching new heights of creativity and ambition. The album’s epic compositions, intricate arrangements, and evocative storytelling marked a significant evolution in the band’s sound, solidifying their reputation as one of the most innovative and compelling bands in the black metal scene.

Beyond their music, Délétère is known for their enigmatic and mysterious persona. The band members conceal their identities behind masks and pseudonyms, adding an aura of mystique to their live performances and creating an air of intrigue around their art.

As Délétère continues to chart their own dark and twisted path through the world of black metal, one thing remains clear: their music is a testament to the power of darkness, the allure of the unknown, and the eternal quest for transcendence. In a genre known for its intensity and extremity, Délétère stands out as a beacon of creativity and innovation, pushing the boundaries of black metal and forging a unique identity all their own.
