Austrian Death Machine is a unique metal band that stands out not only for their brutal sound but also for their tongue-in-cheek approach to their music. Formed in 2008 by As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis, Austrian Death Machine is a parody band inspired by the iconic action hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Blending elements of thrash, hardcore, and death metal, the band has carved out a niche for themselves in the metal scene with their high-energy music and humorous lyrics.
The idea for Austrian Death Machine was born out of Lambesis’s love for Arnold Schwarzenegger movies and his desire to create a fun side project that paid tribute to the action star. Drawing on classic quotes and one-liners from Schwarzenegger’s films, Lambesis set out to create a band that captured the essence of the larger-than-life persona of the legendary actor.
The band’s debut album, “Total Brutal,” was released in 2008 and received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Featuring tracks such as “Get to the Choppa!” and “Come With Me If You Want to Live,” the album showcased Austrian Death Machine’s signature blend of heavy riffs, aggressive vocals, and hilarious references to Schwarzenegger’s movies.
Despite being a side project for Lambesis, Austrian Death Machine quickly gained a loyal following and became a popular live act, known for their energetic performances and over-the-top stage presence. The band’s lineup has seen various members come and go over the years, with Lambesis being the only constant member. Despite the band’s comedic approach to their music, Austrian Death Machine’s musicianship and songwriting skills have earned them respect within the metal community.
In 2009, Austrian Death Machine released their second album, “Double Brutal,” which featured guest appearances from notable metal musicians such as Jason Suecof and James Gericke. The album continued the band’s tradition of churning out catchy, headbanging anthems that paid homage to Schwarzenegger’s iconic roles.
However, Austrian Death Machine’s rise to fame was not without its challenges. In 2013, Tim Lambesis was arrested and charged with soliciting an undercover detective to murder his estranged wife. This shocking turn of events cast a shadow over the band and led to Lambesis serving time in prison. Despite the controversy surrounding their frontman, Austrian Death Machine continued to release music and perform live, with various guest vocalists filling in for Lambesis.
After Lambesis’s release from prison in 2016, Austrian Death Machine made a triumphant return with the release of their third album, “Triple Brutal.” The album marked a new chapter for the band, with Lambesis addressing his past mistakes and focusing on the music that had brought them success.
Today, Austrian Death Machine continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene, delighting fans with their unique blend of humor and aggression. With their larger-than-life persona and unrelenting energy, Austrian Death Machine shows no signs of slowing down, proving that even in the darkest of times, metal music has the power to unite and uplift.
