Udo Quellmalz, a revered figure in the world of judo, has taken on a new role as the U21 Women’s National Coach for the German Judo Federation. With an illustrious career that includes Olympic gold and multiple world championships, Quellmalz brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his coaching position.
Having clinched the top prize at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and securing two world titles in 1991 and 1995, Quellmalz is no stranger to success on the judo mat. His transition from a competitive athlete to a coach has been marked by significant contributions to various judo federations across the globe.
Following his retirement from active competition in 1998, Quellmalz ventured into coaching, serving as Sports Director and National Coach for the British Judo Association before moving on to work with the Austrian Judo Federation from 2007 to 2012. His coaching journey also led him to international schools in different countries, where he honed his teaching skills and knowledge.
Returning to Germany in 2017, Quellmalz continued to make an impact in the judo community by assuming the role of physical training director at Leipzig International School. His expertise was further recognized as he became an IJF Supervisor and educator for the IJF Academy, solidifying his reputation as a seasoned judo professional.
Prior to his current appointment with the German Judo Federation, Quellmalz shared his coaching prowess in Belgium, further enriching his coaching portfolio. His latest role as the U21 Women’s National Coach underscores his dedication to nurturing young talent and preparing them for the rigors of international competition.
As Quellmalz embarks on this new chapter, his focus lies in developing the next generation of judo stars, guiding them towards excellence and integration into the high-performance framework of the DJB. His mission is clear: to elevate the performance of U21 judokas and propel them towards success at the global level.
